When I am travelling one of my favourite things to do is to wander around the abundent food markets of the city I am in.  Usually if I am staying in a hotel this is absolute torture as I have no way of cooking up some of the delights that I find.  That said, a trip to Paris would not be complete without purchasing some soft brie and a baguette and finding the nearest park to scoff it down in.  When I lived in London Sunday for me was spent at the Borough Market, gathering food for the evening meal and ending the day with a glass of wine at one of the adjoining wine bars. Im always on the hunt for new markets so if anyone has any favourites they care to share with me I would love to hear from you.

  1. Yes - I so love markets too - all life is there. Berwick Street was one of my favourites in London, then there is the covered market in old Istanbul - you can get lost in that one.

  2. Next time you are in Toronto, try St. Lawrence Market and while there be sure to hit Carousel for a peameal bacon sandwich...THE best ever, and Alex Farms for their St. Marcellin Cheese, and the mustard man, and...

  4. I agree totally; all except for Marrakech. If only they'd stop pestering you for ONE second, they might sell something!

  5. Peameal bacon is back bacon, brined and coated in fine cornmeal (historically, it was rolled in a meal made from ground dried peas). Less fatty that traditional bacon and delicious!
